Project Overview
The City of Milwaukee and Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) are proposing to improve S. 9th Place Bridge over Union Pacific Railroad. Construction on this project is tentatively scheduled for 2028.
The proposed improvement consists of repairing structural deficiencies, including:
- Concrete surface repairs
- Crack sealing of the reinforced concrete deck, sidewalks, curbs, abutments, and wingwalls
- Replacement of approach pavements at both ends of the structure
Similar to the existing conditions, the street will have one driving lane in each direction, with parking allowed only on the east side of the street. An exclusive bicycle lane will not be provided as part of this project.
The 9th Place Bridge and approach streets will remain open to traffic during construction. Total closure of the street during construction may be necessary for up to a day or two. Every effort will be made to maintain access for people walking and driving to the abutting businesses and residences during construction.
Funding
The project is funded through the WisDOT Local Bridge Program and includes 100% federal funding.
