Project Overview
This project will create 1.65 miles of shared-use trails on the We Energies 20th Street Powerline Corridor and the former Beerline Rail Corridor.
These trails will provide residents of the Rufus King and Lincoln Park Neighborhoods with a safe and enjoyable space to bike, walk, roll and socialize with neighbors.
The trails are part of the Route of the Badger Trail System — a 700-mile trail system that, once complete, will connect people to nature, education and employment opportunities throughout Milwaukee and neighboring communities.
The scope of work includes:
- Construction of a 10-foot wide, shared-used trail on the We Energies Powerline Corridor parallel to N. 20th Street between W. Olive Street and W. Villard Avenue, connecting Gore Park to Meaux Park
- Construction of a 10-foot wide, shared-used trail on the former Beerline Rail Corridor between N. 24th Place and N. 20th Street
- Enhanced street crossings at W. Congress Street, W. Cornell Street, W. Purdue Street, W. Hampton Avenue, W. Fairmount Avenue and W. Villard Avenue
- Wayfinding signs along the trail
Construction Impacts
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2025 and be completed in the 2025 construction season. There are no anticipated traffic or street parking impacts during construction.
Businesses located along W. Purdue and W. Cornell streets may be impacted by short-term construction noise as the trail is built in the City of Milwaukee right of way at the exterior of business property lines, but access will not be disrupted.
