How are new stations selected?
There are a several key criteria used to identify new bike share stations:
1. Sidewalk space
Stations must be placed on concrete in public spaces at least 8 feet wide to allow an accessible path around docks with parked bikes.
2. Demand for micromobility
Stations should be placed near where people want to go. The City uses dockless scooter trip data to identify locations with the highest demand for micromobility.
3. Safe places to bike
Stations should be prioritized along the City's growing protected bikeway network.
4. Distance between stations
Stations should be evenly spaced at walkable distances. Bublr 2.0 uses the following criteria:
Area | Description | Station Distance |
Core | Heart of the system, higher density & ridership (Downtown, East Side, Third Ward, Walker's Point) | 1,000 feet (approx. 3 city blocks) |
Expansion | Surrounding neighborhoods, lower density & ridership | 2,000 feet (approx. 6 city blocks) |
What do new stations look like?
Bublr's new stations are clusters of freestanding black docks. These sleek docks are more compact and can be uniquely grouped so that bike share stations can fit on more streets throughout the city.
