The City of Milwaukee is focused on improving the safety of our streets for people walking, wheeling, biking, taking public transit, and driving across the city, including Burnham Park. Community members have shared significant safety concerns on the streets throughout Burnham Park neighborhood including reckless driving, speeding, dangerous crossings, and crashes resulting in injury and death. Most concerning is the number of crashes concentrated around schools, churches, and parks.

Based on feedback from the Burnham Park community, the City is planning improvements throughout the neighborhood in 2024 and 2025. Design for the first phase of improvements is complete and includes changes to S. 37th Street and new traffic calming on various neighborhood streets. These improvements will be built in Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.

Design for the second phase is ongoing and will include changes to S. 35th Street and W. Burnham Street. Stay tuned for more public involvement opportunities to share your thoughts on the proposed designs!
