Project Overview

The City of Milwaukee and Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) are proposing to improve Hawley Road Bridge over State Street. Construction on this project is tentatively scheduled for 2028.

The proposed rehabilitation improvement consists of repairing different parts of the structure, including concrete surface repairs and crack sealing to the bridge deck. Work is also anticipated to occur on the approach streets at both ends of the structure.

Similar to the existing conditions, the street will have one driving lane and one bike lane in each direction, with no parking allowed on both sides of the street.

Hawley Road Bridge and approach streets will remain open to traffic during construction. Total closure of the street during construction may be necessary for up to a day or two. Every effort will be made to maintain access for people walking and driving to the abutting businesses during construction.

Funding

The City of Milwaukee and WisDOT are proposing to improve Hawley Road Bridge over State Street with 80 percent Federal/State aid. The remaining 20 percent of the construction cost will be borne by the City of Milwaukee.
