Project Overview
The City of Milwaukee is making improvements to E. Michigan Street, N. Lincoln Memorial Drive, N. Art Museum Drive, and N. Cass Streets.
Over the last two years, E. Michigan Street has been reconstructed on the south and north sides of the street between N. Cass Street and N. Lincoln Memorial Drive. The projects added decorative pavers and planters, a raised bike lane, landscaping and trees, and decorative street lighting. These projects are representative of Phases 1 and 2 of the Lakefront Gateway project. Phase 2 work is still being completed on the northside of E. Michigan Street and is estimated to be complete by May 2026.
Phase 3 of the Lakefront Gateway project will be constructed in 2026 and will consist of the following items of work:
- Reconstruction of N. Lincoln Memorial Drive from south of Museum Center Parking entrance through the intersection E. Michigan Street
- Reconstruction and/or overlay of E. Michigan Street from N. Lincoln Memorial Drive to terminus
- Reconstruction of N. Art Museum Drive from E. Michigan Street to N. Clybourn Street
- Asphalt overlay on N. Cass Street, and concrete and ramp work at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Cass Street
Items of work will be broken into stages. See the image slider below for the areas that will be worked on during each stage and the accompanying traffic impacts and timeline.
