The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) is making improvements to W. Lapham Boulevard between S. 16th Street and S. 1st Street. The project will improve safety for people walking, biking, and driving and add green infrastructure along the corridor.

The scope of work for the project includes:

Phase 1: 16th St to 6th St

• Existing roadway will be milled and overlayed with new pavement, and pedestrian ramps will be rebuilt to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
• Portions of the striping and delineators for the existing protected bike lanes will be replaced with pinned-on concrete islands and bioretention basins (see green infrastructure plans for more detail).

Phase 2: 6th St to 1st St

• Existing roadway will be milled and overlayed with new pavement, and pedestrian ramps will be rebuilt to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
• The protected bike lanes and pedestrian improvements will extend east to 1st Street to connect to the City’s protected bikeway network.
• The westbound to northbound right turn slip lane at S. 4th Street will be replaced with a bioretention basin (see green infrastructure plans for more detail).
