Project Overview
The City of Milwaukee is redesigning W. Michigan Street from N. 10th Street to N. Water Street to improve safety, comfort, and accessibility for everyone using the street.
Improvements throughout the corridor include:
- Traffic calming through a change in travel lanes from 4 to 3
- One-way concrete or parking-protected bike lanes on both sides of the street
- Pinned-on concrete bumpouts at various intersections and midblock; some bumpouts will include plantings
- Bus boarding islands at NE corner of Plankinton Ave. and NE corner of Vel R. Phillips Ave. and shared cycle track bus stop at SW corner of Plankinton Ave.
- Landscaped medians and pedestrian refuge islands at various points throughout the corridor
- Pavement markings throughout the corridor, including high-visibility crosswalks
