The City of Milwaukee, in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), is redesigning North Sherman Boulevard from West North Avenue to West Capitol Drive.


Project Goals

Expected Outcomes for the Community
  • Reduce speeding and reckless driving

    Implement traffic calming measures to lower speeds and reduce the frequency and severity of crashes.

  • Enhance safety for bicyclists and pedestrians

    Make North Sherman Boulevard a safe, enjoyable and convenient place – regardless of age or ability.

  • Improve signals, signage, and pavement markings

    Create an integrated system that communicates clearly to safely and efficiently guide all roadway users.

  • Improve overall condition of the road

    Address deteriorating pavement and roadway infrastructure.

  • Preserve the existing environment

    Minimizing impacts to existing trees, planting new trees, and preserving the historic nature of the Sherman Park neighborhood.

Construction on the North Sherman Boulevard Project is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027 and continue into 2028-2029.
